HOLMDEL – Jersey Central Power & Light on Thursday signed a lease to move its central New Jersey headquarters from Middletown to Bell Workshere, giving the redevelopment project another anchor tenant.
The old-school electric utility will move 180 workers to the former Bell Labs site likely by next summer. It will join high-flying technology companies, a hipster coffee roaster and co-working space. It sounds like a paradox, but JCP&L President Jim Fakult said he expects his company will fit in well.
“I consider us to be not an old-line company, but a tech company of some regard, too,” Fakult said.
The deal, stamped at a lease-signing ceremony, marked another piece in Somerset Development’s $200 million project. The building now is 60 percent leased, and its future tenants include iCIMS and Work Wave, technology companies that are growing quickly.
